Funkanometry SF’s Annual Showcase, The Sockhop, is fast-approaching and we couldn’t be more excited to have you all be a part of it!
The Sockhop is an annual celebration of choreography, culture, and community established by Funkanometry SF Dance Company in 2008. It is also a way for our company to reach out to other dance companies nationwide who share our mission of wanting to create strong and meaningful relationships within the greater dance community.
While there are numerous dance showcases in California where dancers can perform on stage in front of large audience, there are very few shows allow the artists and community the opportunity to bond on a personal level. It is Funkanometry SF’s mission to create strong and meaningful relationships between individual dancers and the arts community as a whole in order to inspire the youth through dance, and The Sockhop is one step we take to fulfill this mission every year. It is our way of giving back to a community of artists and saying thank you to the dancers themselves.
In addition to building strong bonds within the dance community, the Sockhop is also a major fundraiser for all of our future training and youth programs for the following year. It is our goal to provide sustainable outlets of self expression for our students especially the youth who are interested in building self-awareness and leadership skills.
